The three factors, consistency, commitment and flexibility, make people think about the minority cause
Over time, the increasing numbers who change from the majority to the minority, are the converted
The more this happens, the faster the rate of conversion from majority to minority
This is called the snowball effect as it gets bigger, taking on new members all the time, like a snowball being rolled on the ground
Over time, the minority becomes the majority
It is important to remember all 3, consistency, commitment and flexibility as it is the fact they work together, which causes minority influence. Make sure you know the difference between the three and how they work together
In the exam, there is a chance you will need to relate this to an example of social change
Be ready for this and think about how minority views regarding recycling, vegetarianism/veganism, and smoking in public, to name a few, have changed
It may be worth asking an older relative about some of these changes that may have occurred in their own lifetime and how they saw the minority become the majority view
For example; being a vegetarian in a small town in Texas in the 1990s was a bit like being from another planet: Yet now large chain fast food restaurants have vegan food on their menu
