Welcome Back

Now, another busy and fruitful summer vacation is coming to an end. SHSIDers gained substantial achievements through their intensive and diverse summer experiences and are ready for the new semester.又一年忙碌而充实的暑假临近尾声，通过一系列丰富的校内外暑期活动，上海中学国际部师生获得了满满收获以迎接新学期。

In this summer, SHSID students benefited from diverse activities, which range from academics, field exploration, charity work, and etc. For example, 10 SHSID students attended the Envirothon NCF Finals at North Carolina. Deemed a “natural resource encounter” for students around the world, contestants learned about the various components of our environment: soils, aquatics, forestry, and wildlife. After a week of intensive competition and field work, all students returned as missionaries dedicated to better managing our environment. Moreover, some SHSID students were invited to participate the International Science School program. The program’s overarching theme this year was Frontier Science, which meant that lectures consisted of frontier topics in science, ranging from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration given by a NASA flight director to nanotechnology and quantum computers. Through the program, which interweaved lectures and hands-on experimentation, students were able to experience first-hand how to apply state-of-the-art theoretical knowledge into real world scenarios through an interesting, novel process. Meanwhile, the Go China program and Adventurous Journey program led students to the hinterland of China, and fully enabled them to practice skills of field survival and first aid. Beisdes, members of Shanghai High School Wind Ensemble also participated in the 2019 Edinburgh International Youth Band Festival.Through their intensive and diverse summer experiences, SHSID students developed their individual talents, learned about frontier knowledge, broadened their global mindedness, and enhanced their understanding of multiculturalism, becoming responsible global citizens.

暑期活动

炎炎夏日里，上海中学国际部学生学习、玩耍两不误，参与了各类校内外活动，其多样性覆盖科研学术、野外探险、公益活动等。其中，10位学生参加了在北卡罗莱纳举行的环境马拉松国际决赛。环境马拉松被称为学生和自然资源的一次邂逅，经历了一周的比赛和实地考察，学生们懂得了如何从自己身边开始更好的保护环境。此外，部分上中学子受邀参与了前沿科学夏令营，学习了包括从美国国家航空航天局飞行主管的讲座，到纳米技术，再到量子计算机在内的等各类科学界最尖端的知识。通过在讲座间穿插实验的方式，帮助学生们体验如何实践这些前沿的理论，其过程有趣而又新奇。在地球的另一端，GoChina项目和户外探险项目带领学生深入中国腹地，跨过碧海沙滩、穿越高山雨林，野外生存、急救等技能得到了充分应用。此外，我校管乐团学生还参加了爱丁堡青年乐团国际艺术节。

丰富的校内外暑期活动将更好地帮助上海中学国际部的同学学习前沿知识、展示个人风采、拓宽全球视野、理解多元文化，成为负责任的世界公民。

During Summer Vacation, students of the SHSID achieved remarkable results in various competitions in different fields.

The SHSID team, as the representative of China, won the championship in the International Economics Olympiad.

Grade 6 students won gold medals in theSingapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC)

SHSID teams won several individual and team awards in Duke University Mathematics Meet

SHSIDers participated in theWorld Scholar's Cup

Grade 7 Studentswon prizes in theInternational Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO).

Teachers’ Training Sessions and Workshops for New Semester

From August 21st, SHSID has hosted a series of teachers’ training sessions and workshops. All of the teachers actively participated in preparation work for new semester based on different grades and subjects. Teachers were informed about current situation of subject teaching and research as well as rules and regulations. With this in mind, the teachers were broken down into small groups to further discuss goals within different grades. The teachers collaborated, communicated and discussed how they could help students improve their proficiency inside and outside the classroom.Written by Jialong Liu and Menglei Wang

国际部新学期准备工作及教师培训

自2019年8月21日以来，国际部教师新学期准备工作及教师培训工作陆续展开。老师们分年级组，教研组紧张有序地为即将到来的新学年开展准备和培训，内容包括：了解学科状况，学习规章制度，讨论如何进一步帮助学生提高他们的表现。老师们积极讨论，为下学期课内外教学做好相应的准备。

New Semester,New Building

From this semester, our new teaching building, Zhentao Building will be officially put into operation. All the students and teachers who set foot into the area, will find themselves in front of a spacious, bright, fresh, and clean modernity located on the upper side of the campus.The new building accommodates nearly a thousand teachers and students from 8th to 10th grades, providing students with a more comfortable and intelligent learning environment.

The new teaching building not only has a large number of clean classrooms, characteristic subject rooms, multi-functional conference rooms, advanced recording room, lecture hall, innovative 3D printing rooms, and warm chatting rooms, but also a well-placed variety of furniture and household appliances for everyone to use, in order to strive to create the most comfortable learning and living environment for teachers and students.

In order to allow students to better tackle the new semester, teachers have been working hard in the summer, busy preparing for any pre-school work, and to make sure that everything is in the best condition for students coming back to school.

In the new semester, we will cherish this beautiful learning environment, and work together to enjoy every aspect of SHSID.
