March 28-29, 2019
International education and communications consultant Jennifer Abrams will present at the Global Education Forum in late March.
Jennifer works with schools and other institutions to boost the communication, leadership and collaboration skills of their decision-makers.
One Key Driver in Creating Effective Schools
What does it mean to communicate well with the adults with whom we work? This keynote will provide some insight into key cognitive, social and psychological mindsets and skills that will help you communicate more collaboratively, and more productively, to better support the students we serve.Through this keynote, those current or aspiring middle or senior level leaders in a school setting, particularly who may be new to a role or feel 'unsure" about the new responsibility the leadership role entails, could gain concrete strategies and steps to take when leading others, i.e. having difficult conversations, planning for meetings, etc.
Jennifer is an accomplished author who has written books including Having Hard Conversations, The Multigenerational Workplace: Communicating, Collaborating & Creating Community, Hard Conversations Unpacked – the Whos, the Whens and the What Ifs and the forthcoming Swimming in the Deep End: Four Foundational Skills for Leading Successful School Initiatives.
One of Jennifer's key attributes is her ability as a "voice coach," helping others learn how to best use their voices – whether collaborating on a team, presenting in front of an audience, coaching a colleague or supervising an employee.
Prepare mentally so you can be mindful of your facial expression and your gestures to keep your body language positive. Watch your eye contact — avoiding eye contact with someone can signal hesitation, but a too intense stare is confrontational.
Having a credible voice, in which one’s tone goes down at the end of the sentences, provides the person speaking with a sense of authority, and gives listeners the feeling that the speaker knows the subject.
Make your statements short and clear, then allow time for your words to be processed.Once you’ve spoken, don’t continue talking just because you’re uncomfortable.
——Jennifer Abrams
Jennifer Abrams has previously worked with YK Pao School and presented in Asia, notably at the EARCOS leadership conference, and has worked with other international schools like Singapore American School. Pao School invited her to attend GEF because one of our school goals is to develop and strengthen our middle-level leadership and this is her area of expertise.
She shares ideas and strategies for how to be a leader when you used to be a colleague, such as becoming a new head of a department. We find her speeches and workshops very practical and relevant to teacher leaders. Often times leadership training can be too theoretical and not much application is considered, while Jennifer she is very application oriented and practical.

Exceptional Presenter
Jennifer Abrams is an exceptional presenter and author. Her workshops are motivational, memorable, and extremely useful. The lessons and skills that she presents are easily shared. Jennifer is charismatic, down-to-earth, and outstanding to work with. We truly enjoyed having her present to our administrators.

Honest, Humane and Growth-Producing
Our school’s work with Jennifer Abrams has sown the seeds of stronger communication skills among the adults in the building. This has only served to strengthen the integrity of communication between staff and students as well. We’ve added her language to our expectations: honest, humane, and growth-producing conversations occur regularly.

A Favorite Among the Faculty
Jennifer has a way of presenting information that gets quickly to the heart of the matter. Her ability to read the true needs of the group, regardless of the original focus, has made her a favorite among the faculty here at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
